Sarah Jessica Parker Says New York City Isn’t ‘Gritty’ Anymore
Sarah Jessica Parker is sad about the loss of New York City’s grit! In an interview with New York magazine, SJP lamented the new, “glamorous” age that NYC has entered - largely in part to Sex and the City. In fact, she and husband Matthew Broderick keep a running tab on changes in their West Village neighborhood. Says the woman behind Carrie Bradshaw:
“Say one of us is walking down the street, I’ll call him and say, ‘You know, the Laundromat is closed!’ And he’ll say, ‘What?’ I’ll be like, ‘The Laundromat at 11th and W. Fourth St. is closed!’”
At least Broderick knows who shoulders a large part of the blame. When he spots “a thong poking up from low-slung jeans,” he tells his wife, “That’s your fault!”
Oh, well. Once you hit a certain age, you realize that only 3% of non-insanely wealthy women in NYC can actually afford to live that lifestyle. But til then, you’ll always have the next new crop of college graduates who still think that SATC is real life!
