Grandpa Conrad Hilton Giving Most of the Money Away To Charity
Remember the good old days when Paris & Nicky Hilton lived in NYC and danced on tables in clubs and got into fights and were mentioned in Page Six like every day? Then remember the even better and slightly newer days when they went to LA and Nicky started marrying dudes in Vegas for a few months and Paris continued to wreak havoc wherever she went? Well the good old days are about to change.
Hilton family patriarch Barron Hilton (Paris & Nicky’s grandfather) has announced that he plans on donating 97% of his $2.3 billion fortune to charity, including $1.2 billion that he stands to earn from both the recent sale of Hilton Hotels Corps. and the pending sale of the world’s biggest casino company, Harrah’s Entertainmente Inc. The money will be placed in a charitable trust that will eventually benefit the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation. The foundation supports projects that provide clean water in Africa, education for blind children and housing for the mentally ill.
Barron Hilton, chairman of the foundation, intends “to contribute 97 percent of his entire net worth, estimated today at $2.3 billion, including the created trusts, at whatever value it is at the time of his passing,” the foundation said.
Well, well, well. Who saw that one coming? Perhaps only Hilton biographer Jerry Oppenheimer, who profiled the fam in his 2006 book “House of Hilton,” in which he alledges that Barron Hilton is embarrassed by Paris’ behavior and believes it has sullied the family name. What do you guys think?
