amNewYork: The Next Generation

More shake-ups in the publishing world. 35-year-old Christopher Barnes takes over as publisher and general manager of amNew York, a free weekday newspaper with a city-wide circulatoin of 320,000. Barnes will succeed founding publisher Russell Pergament.
“Russell’s left the paper in great shape, and left it in good hands,” said Floyd Weintraub, senior vice president at the paper.
amNew York is aimed at a younger audience and directly competes with Metro for the souls of young commuter readers. Hmmm, first Jared Kushner, now Christopher Barnes. With all these new, young publishers popping up, it’s getting harder for established folk to get their chance to run things than it is for an aging Hamptons trophy wife to find a new husband.
